This 4,500 sqm residential tower is based on the addition of livable outdoor space to each unit, and is developed in response to a demand for private development in a traditional district of Beirut.

Outdoor space in modern residential towers is often undervalued. It is frequently an afterthought or else too small to properly use. This fact has diminished the potential desirability of such space in the process. Here, we worked on superposed 160 sqm floor plates, each with an additional 100 sqm of garden extensions that offer residents tranquility and retreat in the heart of the city.

As clients are permitted to purchase more than one floor, the flexibility of the internal organization facilitates consolidation and combination.

The spatial freedom of the floor plates is made possible by the load-bearing cellular concrete façade, whose large perforations frame views over the sea, the building’s urban gardens and Beirut. The almost brutal appearance of the envelope appears to be the product of a disconcerting ‘tearing’ and provokes reflection on the ambiguous effects of the war, which often had the effect of partially dismembering many of Beirut’s buildings.
